Preparing Your Team Report about Your Study Site in Time (t)

Activity-at-a-Glance

- Teams meet to assemble their information.

- They create their own time line, if there is no class one available.

- They create an annotated slide show, (or, if that is not possible, a web site or other form of multi-media report) to share.

In this activity, the teams organize their findings from the Your Study Site in Time investigation. Their assignments have emphasized the various processes that have shaped their study site and its surrounding area. Now they need to organize a presentation. During the next class or two, they will listen to each other's reports and look for interconnections. Then they will share their slide show and observations about connections with the Global Lab Community.

Classroom Management and Preparation

Students will be able to expect that they will be able to share their findings on the GL web site. Should anything interfere with that, they could make a web page and post the URL in the discussion area established for the topic.

Recommended Procedure

1. Have the teams complete their own time lines. These will (eventually) be shared in a GLTime Line.

Look at your data and consider which time line units make sense (10 years? 10,000? 10 million?)

Make a rough sketch of placing the findings along a time line.

2. Have the teams collect copies of old photos of ancestors from their locale. These will be later collected and shared in a GLTimeline Scrapbook.

3. Let students know the options for presentation, taking into consideration time and technical requirements.

Their discoveries in drawing and narrative could be presented as:

Posters (photos taken with a digital camera), with discoveries in drawing, photos and narrative

A (web-assisted) multimedia slide show on the GL site. These pages add wonderful detail to the Web portrait of your study site and community.

A website. They could turn their presentations and posters into Web pages linked to their school.

4. Teams should:

- sketch their presentation before beginning

- assemble their collection of photos and digitize them, if they are not already in digital format

- edit any interviews so they can be submitted, too.
