OBSERVATIONS AT THE STUDY SITE


Student Worksheet

You are going out to your study site today to observe it carefully. Students in other schools will want to know what you find, and will care how you describe it.

1. DESCRIBE WHAT YOU HEAR

What do you hear? Are there natural sounds? Human-made sounds? Can you tell what they are? Write your Sound Observations in your journal.

2. DESCRIBE WHAT YOU SEE

What do you see? Do you see signs of human activities? Do you see a diversity of plants, including bushes and trees? If so, in what sizes and colors? Do you see any animal activities?

How is the land shaped? How clean and unpolluted does everything appear? Write your Sight Impressions in your journal.

3. DESCRIBE WHAT YOU SMELL

What do you smell? Are most of the smells from the non-human natural world? Can you identify what you smell? Can smell tell you whether a place is healthy or not? Write your Smell Observations in your journal.

4. DESCRIBE WHAT YOU FEEL WHEN YOU TOUCH

Pick up an object from the study site and look at it carefully. What can you tell about its size, shape, surface? Is it alive? Write your Touch Observations in your journal.
